The City Meadow Project is an integral part of Norfolk’s 2019 Plan for Conservation and Development (POCD), supporting the goal of enhancing the town sense of place and vitality and improving pedestrian networks. From agricultural focal point to stormwater filtration system to natural wetlands Park, City Meadow’s role in Norfolk continues to evolve. Station Place Connector & Robertson PlazA upgrade
The proposed plan is in alignment with strategies outlined in the Norfolk’s 2019 POCD.
Design Objectives
Create more space for flexible seating and hosting of events
Maintain historical ties to the plaza’s history
Provide opportunities for local commerce
Develop a sense of place ~ the town’s outdoor ‘HUB’
Establish a clear connection between Station Place and City Meadow
Design Details
Expand paved area to create more useable space
Refurbish and relocate existing fountain to celebrate plaza history
Provide trees for shade, visual and seasonal interest
Provide additional site lighting to enhance ambience and security
Provide bicycle racks to help support bike activity in town
Establish Wi-Fi hotspot
Integrate new decks/stairs to physically connect the plaza with City Meadow
Improve drainage utilizing permeable pavers and plantings at tree pits
